One of the primary reasons I struggled with telling anyone I was writing a book, was because I was embarrassed. I read a very different genre then I write in. I like psychological thrillers, rom coms, murder mysteries, even some spice. (Butcher & Blackbird, anyone?) My book isn't any of those things. Mine has been described by everyone who has read it as "perfect for Hallmark". I am embracing that reality and running with it! My fiction novel is one of love and loss, but it doesn't have major twists and turns. It is full of fractures and resilience, but it's not a nail biter. Each character brings their own story to the big picture, making it a well-rounded and warm read.
I had to really step back and think about the 100's of books I have read over the years. They were by authors from every walk of life, and about characters from a vast array of circumstances. I read from all genres from romantacy to historical fiction and everything in between. Some were fluffy "palate cleansers" as I like to call them. Some were primarily for entertainment. And some even moved me to tears. But there is a market and an audience for each one of them. And if Hallmark Lover is my audience, then so be it! I will embrace that and embrace anyone who chooses to give my book a chance.
Seeing it on Goodreads was a huge milestone for me. Seeing the author badge after my name? No words. There are NO WORDS. Thank you again to all my supporters. I am in a 'wait and see' stage, but hope to keep you updated as the process progresses.
